ryan,

ryan,

Yeshua was a Pharisee himself but with one addition: he thought that he was God.

ryan - Fred Hoyle stated the odds of the simple cell being created are like a tornado creating a Boeing 747.

No one knows the probability of that happening. No one knows if it is small (close to 0) or large (close to 1).

ryan - The mass energy density is .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000138 and it cant be any different.

The answer to any question is 17, in some units; that is why a number without units is meaningless. What units are you using?

Also your notion that the value you wrote is exact is problematic.

I wonder if he counted out

I wonder if he counted out those zeros, or copy and pasted, or just threw in a bunch of zeros? And why not use scientific notation for such a small number? All those zeros on a page are much harder to read. Why not 1.38x10^(-31)? (or whatever the negative power is, I certainly could not be bothered to count all the zeros.)

Ryan, please understand it is

Ryan, please understand it is not my intention to beat on you or be abusive in any way. But if you come in here and present any scientific information, it will be challenged and you must be able to back it up with a lot more than "I heard it in a video". Any claims will be critically examined.

I believe you are referring to the mass density of the universe, which NASA has stated as a mass density of 9.9 x 10-30 g/cm3. This figure was arrived at by calculating how much mass density the universe must have (based on observations). It is not confirmation of life, it is a calculation based on theories and present data.

I don't know how to look at the complexity of a simple cell (or anything else for that matter). How complex is a simple cell? Tell us please.

ryan - the mass energy density number came from ted talks, which is non religious.

I don't care if it came from the smartest guy who ever lived, it is bullshit without units. AGAIN:

The energy density of the universe is 17, in some units.

The energy density of the universe is 10,000 in some other units.

Also what is mass energy density? If you told me the units, I might be able to figure it out.

Can you not see how silly your statement is without units? WHAT UNITS ARE YOU USING?

I realize you are responding to other posts, so I'm bumping my post. So this will be the 3rd time I ask a very simple question: what units are you using?

I am sorry I don't know the answer to what the units are I am not a scientist and those kind of details were not important to me. Only the concept was important. From what I gather mass energy density is the amount of mass found in empty space in a vacuum. It has to do with Einstein's biggest blunder the cosmological constant. When I looked into it a year ago it was very confusing to me I had to read and re-read over and over again and was still not sure how it worked. there is a good amount of detail on reasons to believe they state there case well with non religious sources.

There is no shortage of bullshit, even from secular sources. What you have told us on this matter is total bullshit.

ryan - I am sorry I don't know the answer to what the units are I am not a scientist and those kind of details were not important to me.

Perhaps you shouldn't use arguments that you don't understand. You have posted quite a bit of nonsense in that post about why we couldn't have been created by natural causes:

  • You repeated a lie about the probability of a simple cell forming.
  • You posted a dimensionless number for the mass energy density.
  • You posted the phrase "mass energy density" and it has become clear you don't know what it is.

It seems you have tried to present yourself as a reasonable person. Can we expect you to reconsider your position now that you know it is bullshit? Isn't that what reasonable people do?

eta:
If you went into a store and saw a small box with the number 17 written where a price would normally go, you would probably really interested in the units of that price (cents, dollars, pounds of flesh?). If you were baking a cake and it said to add 17 sugar, I'd imagine you'd be curious about the units (cups, teaspoons, liters, 40 lbs bags?).

I recommend some deep introspection into why you were not interested in the units in the number you presented to us, when using the correct units is something we each do everyday, all day. It's just common sense.

Well that would be mass density (mass per unit volume); which totally makes sense. Of course that would make his number off by 90 orders of magnitude (which you hinted at earlier). Unless he is using some other units, in which case I guess we will never know.

David Killens's picture
Some people can understand

Some people can understand and work with science, while others just repeat what they heard without digging down to an understanding on what they are saying.

And even then one may not comprehend what a measurement like that indicates. It is not proof of life or intelligent design, it is just a validation on a theory concerning open versus closed universe, and what the numbers should be under those scenarios.

For example, just a few decades ago mankind believed they had calculated the entire mass of the universe. But subsequent experiments threw that work into the trash can, and thus new theories were advanced to account for the unexpected results. From those new measurements the exploration of dark matter became a completely new discipline the study of the universe.

@ryan
You made a lot of statements that just don't make any sense.
Your first problem is the "evidence" that you offered. None of it is any good, NOT because we are atheists, but because they just aren't any good. they can't pass scrutiny. That is why I said I can't wait until Nyar gets a hold of what you posted. Nyar and Logic are just holding back. As well as Sheldon. They will shred you to pieces and do it without insulting you. Me, on the other hand, will rip what you posted in the meanest way possible. That is just who I am.
You say that you are "nice" because of your belief. That isn't the way it works. If you need the threat of religion to adjust your behavior you are not being honest with yourself or anyone else.
You keep referring to YouTube videos as if they are worthy of consideration. Don't kid yourself, they aren't! There is a reason that we rely on sound logic as atheists, a reason that we turn to science, math, REAL history, for our facts. The reason is that every fact has been scrutinized, peer-reviewed, independently tested, verified.
You keep saying that you have come to a conclusion. You have not. You have JUMPED to a conclusion. You haven't reached anything that can even remotely be considered a valid conclusion.
You say it is hard being "wrong all the time". Well, YOU made that choice. When you bring false evidence based on a predetermined conclusion supported by evidence that has been altered to fit a narrative, you are going to be wrong all the time.
here's the thing. Christianity is arrogant and ignorant. To be a christian you have to be indoctrinated and or brainwashed. It defies logic at a very base level. At some point, you have to just accept what is not only improbable but also impossible. You have to take a "leap of faith" and accept what has been dictated to you.
Take any well-known debate between an atheist and a believer. The christians in an audience will conclude that the believer won the debate. They come with a predetermined outcome. They ignore everything the atheists presents. The fact is that no one has ever even remotely proven a god. Therefore no believer has ever won a debate about the existence of a god.
We have read it heard it and seen it all from christians. The complexity theory, the intelligent design theory, the "just look around you theory, even the lame "I desire there to be a god so there must be a god theory. Believers like to use pseudo-science, revisionist history, fuzzy numbers, purposely redefined terminology, as arguments and they STILL have never proved their god. As Rambo said over 200 years and still no evidence.
NDEs are hearsay and cannot be tested and therefore not admissible as factual evidence! Not one shred of the bible is verified and the bible is not evidence of itself. Testimony is not evidenced unless corroborated and verified. It is exhausting just pointing all the mistakes and holes in the theories that believers bring. It's like all believers want atheists to do all the hard work. Well, we have, that is why we are atheists. I don't know many atheists that were not christian before they actually became atheists. Most of us if not all have done extensive research into the god myth. Logically, scientifically, and historically! All I see from christians that come here are word salad that they get from some screwball that preachers nonsense to them. So, if you want to be taken seriously if you are tired of being wrong all the time, YOU need to do the hard work that we atheists have already done. It's easy being a christian. You have an institution that produces bullshit for you to just repeat. Of course, it is wrong and illogical, but it is already out there for you to access and use. Atheists are all alone. We don't rely on ANY propaganda, there is no institution producing mounds of literature for us to access and use. We are shunned, ostracized, and face prejudice everywhere we go. Our very lives are threatened at times simply because we don't accept the lies and propaganda that religions spew. So, sure, you are going to feel a little heat for what you write/post here. You'd better be spot on accurate. But it isn't any harder than we atheists are on ourselves. So you can produced some earth shattering evidence that is testable, corroborated, verified, solid fact, or you are just going to be wrong all the time!

@ryan: I just can get past the vast improbabilities of life being created on its own.

How will your view be affected if life is found in other parts of the universe? It looks like there are billions of Earth-like out there. There are even potential life-supporting bodies in this solar systems, such as the ocean moons Europa and Enceladus. the Breakthrough Listen project is likely to discover evidence of extraterrestrial intelligent life within the next decade.

Sure life is improbable, but if you bought a lottery ticket for every square mile of ocean on this one planet every day for a billion years, don't you think you might win at least once?

Sapporo's picture
The probability of this

The probability of this universe existing is 100%. In an universe with no life, the probability of a self-aware lifeform believing his existence to be improbable is 0%.

If you believe that god is eternal, why not existence itself? A supernatural being creating this universe is infinitely more improbable than existence being eternal. Either you believe everything has a creator, which is absurd, or you believe it is possible for matter to be eternal.

CyberLN's picture
Ryan, you wrote, “I just can

Ryan, you wrote, “I just can get past the vast improbabilities of life being created on its own.”

“Created on its own”. That’s impossible. “Created” requires a creator.

Given certain conditions, why would you think life arising is improbable? Given the same conditions that existed when life on Earth arose, it is likely probable that it would arise again.

I wouldn't follow this is

I wouldn't follow this is Jesus "god" fellow even if I was certain of god's existence. This is because 1) I believe torture is immoral 2) I think the punishment of the innocent is immoral 3) I think individuals should face the consequences of their actions.

Also, the stuff in the Old Testament is pretty fucked up.

Ryan Mahar's picture
Ok I know you guys don't

Ok I know you guys don't believe in God but you have such a negative view of the bible, it is far more negative than the average person on the street. Its seems just as likely that you would have an ok or neutral view of the bible but you just don't believe it. Maybe you would say "it has good teachings but I just don't think its true." Why does it gravitate so much towards dislike and hatred? Every single person on here said if I found GOD to be true I would never follow him.

Eternal torture is the

Eternal torture is the greatest evil imaginable. I don't think I really need to elaborate further.

Ryan Mahar's picture
I would say of all Christian

I would say of all Christian teachings this is one thing I struggle with the most. I have concluded that if God did make everything than he is probably pretty smart and capable and if he says he is a just God Then I have to believe him. Who am I to argue with God. Its more a matter of his existence not his intelligence.

Sapporo's picture
If god is a just being, you

If god is a just being, you don't "have" to believe him. As eternal torture is the greatest evil imaginable, it cannot be just to follow him. Torturing someone for not following you because they find torture immoral is not the action of a just being.

You would not go to hell

You would not go to hell because you don't believe, you go because that is the punishment for sin. Jesus has offered to pardon your sin but most people do not take the gift.

ryan,

ryan,

"You would not go to hell because you don't believe"

You are not accumulating any points.

As it plainly says in Mark 16:16 (NLV) = "He who puts his trust in Me and is baptized will be saved from the punishment of sin. But he who does not put his trust in Me is guilty and will be punished forever."

Ryan Mahar's picture

To be honest with you I am not sure because it could be when you put your trust in Jesus your sins are forgiven and can enter the kingdom of heaven that way but I could be wrong I need research that one.
